Cabinet Scraper
Cabinet scrapers, alson known as card scrapers, are a simple and effective tool used by cabinet and instrument makers for centuries. This style of scraper is held in the hand and used to smooth all types of wood including exotic hardwoods and highly figured pieces that are prone to tear-out such as curly maple or crotch mahogany. Made from quality Narex high carbon steel and available in three different shapes; Rectangular (4 flat sides), Concave/convex (2 flat sides, 1 concave/convex end), and Gooseneck (multi-radius). When properly sharpened these scrapers will produce a smooth-as-glass surface and whisper thin shavings on both flat and shaped surfaces. A big advantage to using cabinet scrapers over sandpaper is their ability to produce a superior finish quickly while maintaining crisp details in moldings and also on the edges and corners of flat surfaces. Scrapers are known to produce a subtle texture to large flat surfaces much like hand planning that cannot be recreated by sanding.
Burnisher
The Narex burnisher is an essential tool for sharpening cabinet scrapers. Used to create and shape a hook or burr on the edge of a scraper, the Narex burnisher measures roughly 11” in overall length with a comfortable wooden handle and a highly polished steel burnishing rod hardened to 64 HRc for efficiently “turning a bur”. The Narex burnisher is a high-quality tool that is ready for years of service in the hands of any woodworker.
