Shop vacuums do a great job of pulling wood waste from your small power tools, but the bin fills up quickly and the filter always needs cleaning. Adding a dust separator keeps the chips and dust away from your vacuum and collects it safely in a collection bin. In this case a simple 5-gallon pail from the home center store! Attach our entry-level (and affordable!) DIY Dust Separator to your 5-gallon pail and watch the fun through the translucent separator. Includes mounting hardware — optional lid stiffener shown above, sold separately.

An optional lid stiffener is also available, adding some stability to the often insubstantial lids available from your local hardware store. The 1/2" thick, precision CNC-machined MDF support piece is just under 10-1/2" in diameter. It spans the center (flat portion) of all the lids we tested and is designed specifically for our Quick-Snap DIY Dust Separator
