Fitfinder 1/2 – Twice as Good at Finding Center, Without Math!
The FITFINDER 1/2 Gauge from MicroJig is a revolution in set-it-and-forget-it setup and layout. The FITFINDER 1/2 Gauge provides a way to locate the center of your stock without doing any measurements or fiddling around, and then transfer that measurement to any number of setup and layout situations. It does the job of several marking and measuring tools, and does it better!
The MicroJig Fitfinder 1/2 Gauge is a no-math method to determine the center (of half the thickness) of any workpice. The Fitfinder simply gauges the thickness of your original piece and converts it to half its dimension to a pointer/scale.
Step One is to place your original workpiece on a flat surface, then raise the P2 arm to touch the top of the workpiece. Couldn't get much more easy than that!
Step Two is to use the pointer on the P3 arm to transfer the 1/2 dimension to the second workpiece. Use a sharp pencil to improve your accuracy!
With the half dimension transferred, your can quickly set up to cut perfect half lap joinery. In fact, for this setup you don't even need to transfer the dimension to a second workpiece, but take the Fitfinder right to the saw and use the P3 arm to set the blade height itself! Easy!
For turning applications, again very easy. Measure the full size of your piece, then transfer the half-dimension to the cylinder. Make two marks, and you've got the perfect center.
Need to set up your bandsaw for a perfect resawing cut? No problem! Quickly transfer the center location, set your fence and start cutting. These are only a few of the possible uses of the Fitfinder, and we expect you'll find even more uses that may be unique to your woodworking. Forget math, remember Fitfinder!
