The Fitfinder simply gauges the thickness of your original piece and converts it to half its dimension to a pointer/scale. 

MicroJig Fitfinder 1/2 Gauge – Step One

Step One is to place your original workpiece on a flat surface, then raise the P2 arm to touch the top of the workpiece. Couldn't get much more easy than that!

MicroJig Fitfinder 1/2 Gauge – Step Two

Step Two is to use the pointer on the P3 arm to transfer the 1/2 dimension to the second workpiece. Use a sharp pencil to improve your accuracy!

Make Perfect Half-Lap Joints

With the half dimension transferred, your can quickly set up to cut perfect half lap joinery. In fact, for this setup you don't even need to transfer the dimension to a second workpiece, but take the Fitfinder right to the saw and use the P3 arm to set the blade height itself! Easy!

Always find the pefect center of any cylinder

For turning applications, again very easy. Measure the full size of your piece, then transfer the half-dimension to the cylinder. Make two marks, and you've got the perfect center.
